2020 ABPA Region 5 Director’s Report

ABPA Region 5 (CO, NM, UT, WY)
Director’s Report

The past 4 years have certainly been a tumultuous time for the ABPA. Prior to November of 2019, the Association changed management companies 3 times in nearly as many years. Clearly, the association management industry had changed dramatically over the years and many of these companies had difficulty managing these rough waters. The latest management company, Fernley and Fernley had been in business for over a hundred years but this changing landscape and the unique nature of the ABPA led to the decision by the ABPA Board of Directors to end our contract with this company. The BOD then chose to contract with Advanced Management Solutions to provide the support that the ABPA desperately needed to move forward.

AMS is headed by Patti Fauver, previously the Treasurer and a Past President of the ABPA. Please take a moment to go to the website at abpa.org to familiarize yourself with the members of the new management company and their qualifications. This management company was created expressly to serve ABPA moving forward and we are their only client. For the first time in many years the ABPA is supported by a dedicated group of individuals who understand what we do and are fully invested in seeing the ABPA succeed.

This is an exciting time for the ABPA. With the stabilization of our management, ABPA can now return to what we do best: providing and supporting education in the field of backflow prevention and cross connection control. The biggest challenge that I see in the present is a significant decline in membership due to the challenges we have weathered over the past several years. I would challenge each of our members to recruit a new member each so we can continue to expand and draw from varied experiences.

Our certification programs are back to running smoothly. Our National Conference is coming up on April 20 – 22, 2020 in Charlotte (please go to the website to register). The Western Regional Backflow Conference is back and is a success. I see a bright future for the ABPA, and we will continue to work diligently as Directors on the BOD to ensure the continued success of the Association and I thank you very much for your patience and support.

You can go to http://www.abpa.org to find any upcoming tester classes and exam dates and locations. Unfortunately with the COVID-19 situation that we find ourselves in classes and exams are postponed until at least August. Keep checking the ABPA website for updated information.
